Ms. Hall was called to eternal rest at the age of 102. She was the third of nine siblings. Her family relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio from Alcoa, Tennessee in 1925.
She attended Cincinnati Public School and graduated from Woodward High School in 1940. (The school was named after William and Abigail Woodward in the neighborhood of Bond Hill in 1831). Lena with her glowing smile and gift for conversation was hired on staff at the Sinton Hotel (premier hotel of its day) as an Elevator Operator, on the corner of 4th and Vine downtown Cincinnati.
Lena and her family were guided by generations of strong faith in God Christians. Due to this spiritual enlightenment, God called her to preach his word. She attended Seminary School in Pennsylvania, graduated, and was ordained in 1951. Rev. Lena served as Pastor of the Church of Christ in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for 20 years.
Rev. Lena Hall was fiercely loyal and devoted to family, always placing the needs of family above her own. Lena was beloved by all her siblings William, Hannah, Elizabeth (Ella), James, Dorothy, and “Baby sister” Helen. All of them carried the Barwick family name with pride handing it down to the next generation of Barwick’s.
In October 2006, Rev. Lena Hall became a member of the House of Praise Community Fellowship church. She was known as Rev. Mother Lena Hall by church members and known as Aunt Lena and Mama Lena by devoted relatives. She truly exuberated God purpose in her heart. Her motto was just “Live, Live, Live” and with “God All Things are Possible “.
Lena was a proud member of the “Order of the Eastern Star” a biblical based organization, she contribute her time and energy to the organization core values: charity, truth, love, kindness, and service to the communities.
Lena and Richard H. Johnson Sr were joined in marriage and from this union their son, Richard L. Johnson Jr., was born. Lena was later married to Rev. Robert Hall who preceded Lena in death. She leaves her cherished son Richard, her sister Helen Trumar Savage, Grandchildren: Richard Johnson III, Terri Ann Collins, Carolyn Harrison, Maurice Evans, Taras Orlando Williams, Brady Johnson, Nathan Johnson, Chad Johnson, Gamin Johnson, Jasmine Feaster, Miles Lacey, Armani Feaster, McKenzie Engel, and Kyle Engel. Nephews: Robert Moore and Marlin Walker; Nieces: Belinda Adams, Jamye Jones, and Sharon Watson. 33 Great Grandchildren, 10 Great Great Grandchildren, Great Nephews and Nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.
