Kathy Ann Melson was born on September 4, 1958 to the union of Allen Huffman and Ann Huffman in Cincinnati, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her father, Allen Huffman, and Greg Hisle, her long time partner which she called the “love of her life.”
She graduated from Princeton High School in Springdale, Ohio; Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Kentucky; and received a Masters degree from University of Phoenix in Phoenix, Arizona.
In 1979, she became the wife of Robert Melson (divorced). In 1984, they were blessed with a daughter, Brandi Nikole.
She dedicated her career to the service of child-ren and their families. Kathy began her career as a Social Worker at the Sickle Cell Awareness Group. She then moved on to 4C for Children, where for 20+ years, she ensured safe and secure childcare for thousands of children as a Case-worker and contract manager. After leaving 4C, she worked tirelessly and diligently as a Case-worker for Hamilton County Jobs and Family Services.
Kathy touched so many lives especially in this role, dedicated to assuring the safety of children and supporting the life-improvement of their parents. In these late years of her career, her courage and dedication to working for these families, despite the increasing debilitation of her disease (Multiple Sclerosis), inspired so many.
She has and will always inspire us to live a life in service of others. Despite the insurmountable challenges of MS, she went around it and dedi-cated herself to so many others anyway.
At the time of her death, Kathy had retired from Hamilton County Jobs and Family due to her ongoing battle with MS. She was a long time member of Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church. She held the position of soloist as well as past President with the Celestial Chorus. Kathy loved to sing and her favorite solo to sing with the chorus was “No trouble at the river.” Kathy was also a member of the Multiple Sclerosis Inspira-tional Institute, Inc., where she was recently appointed to the board.
Kathy Ann Melson departed this life on Tues-day, March 31, 2015 at Mercy Hospital. She leaves to cherish her precious memory: her mother, Ann; daughter, Brandi, her husband, Michael and grandchildren, Myles and Addison; brothers, Pierre Huffman and his two children and Stephan Massey, his wife Pamela and four children; ex-husband, Robert Melson; very special loving aunts, uncles and cousins and many caring friends. Kathy will also be remembered by her three dearest friends, Sherri Waldon, Dana Braxton and Sherri Bethea whom she loved like sisters.
Kathy was a devoted mother who lived life with a very enthusiastic personality, and was known for wearing very fashionable high heels. She was a woman of love, a woman of God. May she now be at peace from the pain and suffering she endured in this life as she is laid to rest.
