I met Karen has a young child on Grafton. Karen was probably four years older than me which at that time seemed like she was an adult to me, but she never treated me like a kid. She actually treated me like her little sister spent a lot of time with me, Karen and her brother Tony Taught me how to ice skate she would sit on her porch and we would laugh and Clara would come out to see what we found so funny . She was a bright light that I had so so much admiration for. Karen just light up a room when she walked in. I hold my memories of Karen,Gus, Tony and Ms Clara Whenever I look up at the stars, I’ll always know she’s a brightest one shining. Love you sis rest well

Kenneth Dawson left a message on June 20, 2025:
To the Coleman and Strader families, my deep heartfelt sympathy on Karen's passing. I have known Walt since the 7th grade when he, his cousins, another friend and I formed our singing group "The Young Folks." I met Karen about 2 or 3 years later when she was a Girls Assembly member under the guidance of the Eastern Stars and I a member of the Prince Hall Pythagorans under the guidance of the Prince Hall Masons. I am also blessed to have known Mr. Leroy Strader who was not only a neighbor, but also a school administrator at Woodward high during my formative years when the presence of his strong male of African descent presence in my life was crucial. At a time such as this when one reflects on a life lived, mine has been a pretty good one thus far made brighter because of the presence of Karen Coleman bringing her smile and magnetic personality in it!!!
