Julia Stone, beloved daughter of the late Rosalee Moultrie and Samuel (Mike) Moultrie was born on August 3, 1938, in Bells, South Carolina. She departed this life on Monday, June 24, 2024, at the Indian Springs Skilled Nursing Facility in Cincinnati, Ohio after a long illness.
Early life: Julia grew up in New York City with her uncle and aunt, Eugene and Ora Mae Russell. She attended Canaan Baptist Church. After school, Julia moved to Newark, NJ where she met and married her future husband, Eddie Brooks. From this union, a beautiful daughter was born, Debra.
Julia worked at various jobs and was skilled at housekeeping and cooking.
Julia was neat, clean and a fabulous cook. Her specialty was baking.
After the resolution of her marriage to Eddie, she later was introduced to a nice friend of her uncle, Lawrence Stone. They later married and moved to Bronx, NY until his death in 2010.
Julia decided to move to Cincinnati to be with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren in December 2011. She joined Zion Hill Baptist Church in May 2012 under the pastorship of her son-in-law Carl, Sr. She was welcomed by members, family, and friends.
In March 2018, Zion Hill and El Bethel Baptist joined together to form Zion Bethel Christian Fellowship where Carl Sr. and Shawn McMullen Sr. serve as Co-Pastors. Julia was excited about the churches coming together as one.
Even though she loved living with her family, she was a very independent person, so she decided to get her own apartment. Life was good.
In April 2022, her health started to fail, which necessitated her to require moving into a skilled nursing facility.
Julia was the mother, sister, aunt, grandma, and friend you needed her to be.
She spoke words of wisdom and was full of joy. No matter what life would bring, she kept a positive attitude and a spirit of gratefulness. Julia was truly a soldier in the army of the Lord!
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters: Rosa Mae Darden (Willie), Mary Chestnut (Eddie), and two brothers Mike, Jr. and Jimmy Carroll Moultrie (Linda).
She leaves to mourn her passing, her only child Debra McMullen (Carl), granddaughter Candace, grandsons Carl Jr. and Jonathan, and two great grands Amirah and Kennedy. One sister, Shirl Holmes (Billy) and brother, Clarence/ (Bubba (Caroline).
