Johnny Springer, Sr., age 87, of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away on July 8, 2025, while in the care of Affinity Hospice Services and Brookdale Springdale. Johnny was born October 21, 1937 in Heflin, Alabama to the late Moses Springer, Sr. and Willie Mae (O’Hara) Springer. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia (Parks) Springer; brother, Moses Jr.; and his son, Johnny Jr.
Johnny is survived by his daughter, Kim; his son, Anthony; and daughter-in-law, Hope.
Johnny graduated from the Calhoun County Training School, in Hobson City, Alabama, class of 1955. He received his Associate’s Degree in Personnel, Traffic & Industrial Management from the University of Cincinnati in 1968.
Johnny retired from the Upjohn Company as a Senior Sales Representative after 25 years of service. During his tenure, he was frequently recognized for his work performance, culminating in him being awarded the Upjohn Sales Academy Award for three consecutive years. Following his retirement, he served as a starter at Meadow Links and Golf Academy for 10 years.
Johnny accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior on January 7, 1977. From that day forward, he was committed to his faith. Whether it was serving as a radio host for WAKW’s “Pillar of Fire” broadcast, speaking at the Trucker’s Christian Chapel in Kentucky, or assisting in the ministry at the Lebanon Correctional Institution, Johnny was always willing to witness for the Lord.
Johnny had a passion for caring for those who were less fortunate. On 28 occasions, Johnny traveled to Haiti accompanied by doctors, nurses, ministers, and local politicians to help transform lives. His missionary work sustained a community of 500-600 residents in the area of Mt. Cabrit, some 35 miles outside of Port-Au-Prince. Among other things, his team provided beans, rice, and other essentials; drilled a well to provide access to clean water; and established the “Voice of the Lord” Christian radio station atop the mountain to spread the Word to the residents.
Johnny also had a passion for sports. He was a self-taught golfer who would routinely compete with the Golfing Pros and Instructors at Meadow Links & Golf Academy. He shared his love of baseball, basketball, boxing, and football with his children. Never one to leave any stones unturned, Johnny served as head coach of Anthony’s little league baseball team. He never missed any of his children’s big sporting events.
