John Morgan Lane, Sr. was born May 25, 1918 in Dell-rose, Tennessee to the late Morgan Lane and Zana Mae Johnson.
After laboring many years sharecropping under the harsh Tennessee sun, he relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1937. Upon arrival to Cincinnati, John joined the Civilian Conservation Corp which helped to plant the beautiful forest scenery we now know as Mt. Airy Forest. With 1943, came the draft of many young men to fight in World War II. John happened to be one. He continued to honorably serve this fine nation faithfully until 1946.
John was the devoted husband of Edna Mae Bradley. The two were joined in holy matrimony in 1948 and through their union, bore five children: John Jr. (Marcia), Rick, Teresa Alexander, Angela Valentine (Myron) and Kimberly Malcolm (John). He encouraged academic pur-suits and instilled a strong work ethic. John was also the grandfather of Kimberly, Brian, Aaron, Christopher, Linzy and Kristen, whom he loved dearly. Shortly before his death, he was blessed with the arrival of a great-grandson, Jaden.
In addition to being a husband and a father, John was an incredibly resourceful and resilient man; proof positive of a recession survivor. His employment record reflects a host of colorful positions ranging from bartender, to house painter, to equipment cleaner. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, a tradition that carried long into his senior years.
John and Edna enjoyed a number of activities together. Every evening after retiring home from work, the two prepared dinner together for their family. In social aspects, they enjoyed fellowshipping with family and friends.
John lived a long, full life and leaves each of us some-thing to smile about when we think of him; from his uncanny ability to fix things, to his unwavering devotion to his wife during her last years. He will be dearly missed.
