The life of Jimmie Lee Green began on January 27, 1935 in Huntsville, Alabama. He was born to Jimmie Lee and Gracie Green. He was the sixth child of seven children.
Jimmie was raised and schooled in Huntsville, AL. After gra- duating high school, he enlisted into the United States Air Force and was discharged with Honors. Shortly after leaving the service, he met and married Addie L. Mason. He was a young man when he journeyed to Cincinnati, Ohio to provide a better life for his wife, two daughters and two sons. Soon after arriving, they had their fifth and final child. He was his children’s biggest supporter in sports, school and most importantly, in life.
He began working numerous jobs to support his family, at the same time attending trade school. His determination allowed him to receive a Machinist Degree from Courter Tech. He began working at General Electric where he worked his way up to a Master Machinist. He was also a member of The International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers. He retired from General Electric after 25 years of service; however, he was called back often to work on special assignments. His expertise gave him the opportunity to work another 15 years at Lambert Brothers Machine Shop.
Jimmie was a loving husband and father. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He was especially happy when he visited family back home in Alabama. Everywhere he went, he was up for a game of Spades. He would also watch any sport that was televised. He didn’t care what it was as long as they kept score. He didn’t allow a day to go by without working on his crossword puzzles.
Jimmie gave his life to Christ more than 50 years ago. He served at Greater Canaan Missionary Baptist Church during his Eulogy entire walk with the Lord. He was a Senior Deacon in addition to teaching Sunday School and Bible Study. He also had a beautiful voice that he used to minister in the Male Chorus. Nothing kept him from working in the vineyard that he was placed. He was dedicated until his health would no longer allow him to serve in those capacities. He was a tireless servant to GOD, his FAMILY and his CHURCH.
Jimmie was called home to Glory on November 9, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie and Gracie Green; daughter, Jeanette Mason; three sisters, Fannie Mae Erskine, Odell Smith (Earl Smith) and Charlesetta Green; and four brothers, Ezell Green, Johnnie Green, Roosevelt Green and Timothy Green.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Addie Green; daughter, Barbara Underwood (Austin), Danny Mason (Maria), Maurice Green (Stephanie) and Jimmie Green, Jr. (Tamika); his loving sister, Lucille Langford; brother, Tommy Lee Green; as well as a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other loving relatives and friends.
