Jasmine Steele affectionately known by the names “Pooh Bear”, “Jazzy B”, “Juicy J”, and “Nanny”, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025 at the age of 45. At an early age Jasmine dedicated her life to Christ under the leadership of her late grandfather Reverend Henry James Lewis Sr. She loved singing in the choir. Jasmine brought warmth, laughter and life into the lives of everyone who knew her. She was kindhearted and forgiving. She had a great sense of humor and a radiant smile. Although she was kind she could be firm with anyone if she found herself in situations where it was necessary.
During the time she was growing up Jasmine went to Rex Ralph Elementary School and in later years received her GED from Aiken High School’s Adult Education Program. She also took courses at Brown Mackie College and received a certificate in medical assisting. She enjoyed dancing, going to movies shopping and spending time with her family. Most recently, she started a blog on Tik Tok. She was a very supportive football mom and gymnastics nanny. She loved sports and would frequently attend football and basketball games with her grandkids and close friends.
Jasmine dedicated nearly 20 years to nurturing children through her home daycare. She worked at Genesis Academy on Colerain Avenue for 10 years. Her life’s work was defined by care, patience and a deep love for others. Her unique personality traits blessed so many people and will always be remembered.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Henry James Lewis Sr. and Mattie Mae Lewis; her uncles, Brenston Lewis Sr., Henry “Hank” Lewis Jr., Lethaniel Lewis, Charles Patrick Lewis, and Thomas Gravett; husband of her aunt Cindy Gravett; her aunts, Darnell Jackson, Myra Cannon and Lestina Freeman; cousins, Brenston Lewis Jr. and Dante’ Noble, Keith Lewis Sr., Douglas Kirkland, and Jeffrey (Lewis) Jones.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her cherished mother, Shivah Israel and father, Melvin Miller, former spouse, Sean Steele Sr.; devoted children, Aja Michelle Steele, Sean Steele Jr., Andrew Steele, Emoni Steele, and Mik’el Steele Winkfield; grandkids, Sincere Steele and Xavier Greenlee; siblings, Portia Renee’ Lewis, Cedric Lorenzo Lewis, and Quinton Alexander Lewis; nieces and nephews, Mykayla, Joshua, Kinxton, Ci’ana, Lacey, and Journi; and a host of other relatives.
Though her time on earth was far too short, Jasmine’s legacy of love, laughter and compassion will live on in the hearts of those whose lives she touched.
