Janis P. Caulton was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, the second daughter of the late Herschel G. Roundtree and Loraine Roundtree. She had a kind spirit and uplifting personality. To her friends and family members she was known as “Jan”. However, to her nieces and nephews she was affectionately known as “Naynie”.
Early on, Janis was a very serious student, receiving all “A’s” on her report cards. Following, her early education, Janis excelled in high school. She received many accolades from her instructors as she mastered the art of shorthand. Janis graduated in 1967 from Hughes High school. However, she did not receive her diploma until August 22, 1987 as a result of the race riots. Janis later found employment with Buckhorn Inc. She held various positions from word processor, to personal assistant/secretary and front door receptionist. Janis worked for Buckhorn for over 20 years.
Janis’ hobbies included collecting rare coins and fancy baskets (Longaberger). However, her favorite past times were talking on Facetime with her nephew about cars. Cooking a specialty meal for her niece (baked chicken wings and cabbage) or baking her most sought-after desert… Those famous, special, buttery, butter cookies that everyone would fight over rather the cookies had icing or not.
Janis also had a love for music and dancing. She did not care what genre of music was playing, when it was being played, or where, she would show off her moves for everyone to see. Janis would even dance to the music being played on commercials. If Luther Vandross were being played, she would make sure to let everyone know that was her husband singing to her. She had such a wonderful personality and a heart of gold.
God did not want her to suffer. So, he sent his angels to take her home. She gave her best to the very end. She passed away peacefully at Hospice of Cincinnati, with her niece Tiffani, nephew John and loving friend Latoya by her side. Janis departed this earthly life and went through the open gate in answer to her Father’s call on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at 11:19pm, after losing her battle to cancer.
Janis was preceded in death by her mother Loraine Roundtree (2006), her father Herschel G. Roundtree (2003), her uncle Gilbert L. Gentry (1995) and her sister Paulette (nee Roundtree) Ballard (1995).
She leaves not to mourn her passing, but to forever cherish her fond and beautiful memories: her niece, Tiffani Y. Davenport (Thylilyah); nephew, John P. Ballard Jr. (Boz); Grandnieces, Janaya, and Jamilah; Grandnephews, Charles Jr. (CJ, Jordan, Branden, Shane and Jeremy, along with a host of loving relatives and friends.
