James Davis was born in Salisbury, North Carolina to James, Sr. and Rosetta Davis. He accepted Christ at an early age and rejoiced in being numbered among the Christian Family.
Deacon James Davis, Jr. was a very active member of Greater Faith Baptist Church, and was ready, willing, and able to do anything he could to help carry on the work until his recent illness and sudden death which occurred on July 22, 2014.
Deacon Davis was the head Deacon at Greater Faith Baptist Church for many years as well as an active member of the Senior Choir. He was faithful in serving communion each month as well as visiting all of the “Sick and Shut-ins”. He also supported and participated in other ministries of the church. He loved gardening, and would always share the “first fruits of his labor”, with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva, parents: James, Sr. and Rosetta Davis, and two sisters: Patricia Davis, and Mary Elizabeth Davis.
He leaves to cherish fond memories one brother: Charles William Davis, Sr., three nieces: Carla Davis and Cathy Davis both of Lowell, N.C, Caren Lightfoot (Chris) of Alpharetta, GA, and one nephew: Charles W. Davis, Jr. of Salisbury, NC., two step-daughters: Helen O. Pendergrass, of Middletown, Ohio, and Marcia Jett of Dayton, Ohio; grandchildren: Greta Mack and Brent Jett of Dayton, Ohio, Darrell Pendergrass of Atlanta, Georgia, Michael and Dana Mack of West Elkton, Ohio.
He indeed left a legacy for his family and for those who knew and loved him. So today we say farewell, but we need not fret, for as much as our hearts do sadly yearn for one more glimpse of his smiling face, we know it is now filled with God’s “Amazing Grace”.
