Herbert Lee Bowen’s sun rose on May 18, 1951 when he was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Robert and Dardanella Bowen. Sunset was Saturday, October 21, 2023, Cincinnati, Ohio.
Lee graduated from Walnut Hills High School. Following that, he obtained various degrees and certificates – all preparing him for his purpose and calling to help people.
To that end, Lee formed the non-profit organizations People Working With People (“PWWP”) and Community Economic Development Assistance Corporation. He worked as a consultant to various community councils, at Cincinnati’s Free Store Foodbank, and other community organizations. Most recently, Lee was a counselor at City Gospel Misson where his music therapy classes, which included treats, are legendary! Lee enjoyed helping others, not just those in recovery.
Lee was funny, witty, and very caring and giving. He truly loved his son Brandon and his siblings. He enjoyed having wonderful meals with family and friends filled with love, thoughtful conversations, and laughter. He loved good food, which was actually all the bad foods that he was not supposed to have. This was particularly vexing during his many times in the hospital over the last two years.
Lee leaves his son Brandon Lee Bowen to cherish his memory along with Brandon’s mother Linda, and Brandon’s siblings Jareje Spencer (Alfredo Hopkins) and Kristina Johnson. He was Papa Lee to Kristina’s son Bryson Johnson. Lee leaves his sister Helen Davenport; his brother Robert A. Bowen; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. His parents, his brother, Elbert Bowen and sister Bobbie Ann Stockdale preceded him in death.
