Harold L. Johnson, Sr. was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on March 22, 1933 to the late Fannie Williams Johnson and Albert J. Johnson, who preceded her in death. God closed his eyes for the last time on June 22, 2014.
Harold was educated in the Cincinnati Public School System, attending grade school at Columbiana, where he received the Outstanding Award in music. He graduated from Withrow High School and played trumpet in the marching band for a period of four years. Harold L. Johnson furthered his education by attending the Univer-sity of Cincinnati, making the Dean’s List and receiving his degree in the field of Criminal Justice.
He served 20 proud years in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of TSgt. Retiring from the service, Sergeant Johnson was awarded the United States Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service.
Following his retirement from the military, Harold, better known as “Doctor J”, worked 30 years as a Masseur for the Hamilton County YMCA of America.
Harold was preceded in death by his son, Harold L. Johnson, Jr.; and son-in-law, Randy Pennington.
Leaving to rejoice in this celebration, he leaves: spouse, Iva Johnson; son, Michael (Shannon) Johnson; daughters, Elaine (Freddy) Johnson, Pamela (Henry) Smith of Tampa, FL and Renee Pennington of Oakland, CA; grand-daughters, Danielle Akers, Candice (Vincent) McKitric, Kylie Johnson and Tiffany Williams of Tampa, FL; grand-sons, Nathan Johnson and Anthony Johnson; great-grandson, Trenton Williams; a dear, dear friend, Loretta Hamner [son, James (Talithia) Hamner; daughter, Latashia Hamner (William Yett); granddaughters, Jade Hamner and Jada Hamner; sister, Yvonne Ruff]; and a host of relatives and friends.
As the curtain closes on this precious life, Harold takes his final cruise on the Old Ship of Zion.
