Gilda Veronica Gwendolyn Barrett-Smith was sent to her eternal home on January 23, 2025. She was the beloved daughter to the late Henry Roy Barrett and Gladys Barrett.
Gilda was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion and unwavering faith in God. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of her family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by her.
Gilda is survived by her two daughters, Antoinette Dillard and Tricia Powers (Reginald), her grandchildren, Jasmynn Dillard, Jaida Wolfork and Anthony Johnson, III. She also leaves behind five siblings Timothy Barrett, Roy Barrett, Philbert Barrett (Meredith), Rosalind Barrett-Scott, and Calvin Barrett, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.
After her graduation from Woodward High School, Gilda maintained her unquenchable thirst for knowledge. She attended the University of Cincinnati and obtained her associate’s degree from Cincinnati State University. Throughout her time in Cincinnati, Gilda enjoyed drawing, painting and crocheting. You could be sure to find her in a Mexican restaurant enjoying dinner.
Those who knew Gilda will remember her for her infectious smile and her deep-rooted faith in Jesus. She had a rare gift for making others smile and leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed her path.
Although Gilda’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May her memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth her legacy of love and compassion in all that we do.
