Ella Bernice Brown was born to the late Eugene Litmon and Ella Hill Litmon on February 22, 1917 in Athens, Georgia. When she was born, her mother said she looked like a little doll. The name stayed with her and the family called her “Auntie Doll.” Ella was a devoted wife to Major Charles BernardContinue Reading

Sonya Pope left a message on March 21, 2015:
Mother Brown was a "One in a Billion" kind of lady. I loved her so very much and I will miss our nearly two hour weekly phone conversations where we would laugh a lot, share a lot, and speak on and of the Goodness of our Great and Mighty God. Mother Brown's presence will be tremendously missed, but praise be to God that I have some of the greatest memories that will last a lifetime. My family and I send our deepest condolences, and, we pray that the strength and power of God rest upon Mother Brown's entire family.

To The Family of Ella Bernice Brown, Please accept our deep and sincere expression of sympathy on the occasion of the home going of your family member, Ella Bernice Brown. We pray that God will comfort you during this time of great loss. Ella was a longtime member of First African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, San Jose. God saw fit to share Ella Brown with us. It was a joy knowing her. She was the Church Clerk for the Quarterly Conference and President of the Missionary Society. These were her passions. We will miss her grace and charm. She has been on the battle field for the Lord for a long time. Now he has called her to rest. Forrest Williams Dorothy Williams
Bettie Chaney left a message on March 21, 2015:
Resolution for Sister Ella Brown O they tell me of a home far beyond the skies, O, they tell me of a home far away, O, they tell me of a home far beyond the skies, O, they tell me of an uncloudy day. In the quiet of the evening and the still of the night, Sister Ella Brown has done what we all must do: exchanged mortality for immortality and discovered that death and the grave have no power over a child of God. She has gone to establish her residency in that mansion that God has been preparing since the beginning of time for His children, and is now walking and talking with the Lord as they stroll down one of those many streets paved with gold. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her, but we know that she is finally at peace in her home not made by human hands. Sister Brown was the consummate missionary and Christian Education leader. She never shirked her duty nor allowed anything or anyone to interfere with her commitment to First AMEZ Church, the WH&OM Society, the Christian Education Department or God. She was very mission-minded and a local president for more than twenty years. She held monthly meetings using her study book and constitutions to instruct and inform her members about the themes and components. She rarely missed a Mass Meeting or observances of missionary anniversaries, and she taught by example, showing her members how to use their time, talent, and finances to support the cause of missions. She could also be found at missionary quadrennials even though she was not a delegate so great was her love for the WH&OM Society. In addition to her missionary commitment, Sister Brown was also very ecumenically involved. She represented the Bay Cities District at the World Federation of Methodists and Uniting Women, and would report annually on her participation and activities. As a Christian Education leader and mentor, she worked diligently with the late Gladys Pettis, the late Calvin Callahan, and Joseph Brown to see that the youth were able to participate in the Christian Education Conventions at Livingstone College by helping to arrange the finances for the bus trips to Salisbury, North Carolina. She was also a generous and loving hostess who opened her home to various members of the church and connection for extended periods of time. We extend to his family our deepest sympathy in their great loss and remind them now and in the coming days that Earth truly has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal and that God stands every ready to comfort and console no matter how angry, hurt, or despairing we become. We pray that they find further strength and encouragement in Paul’s words to the church at Thessalonica that Sister Brown is jut asleep, that she is in the bosom of Abraham. Sister Brown, we can’t see you, but we know that you are singing, “Not to just meet with the angels, Nor to see loved ones who’ve gone, Not to just drink at the fountain under the great white throne. Not for the crown that he giveth that I ran this race, Now that I’m up in Heaven, I’ll just behold his face.” Respectfully submitted, Bay Cities WH&OM Parent Body Sister Bettie Chaney, President Rev. Frederick Hubbard, Bay Cities Presiding Elder Mrs. Devieta Moore, Missionary Supervisor Rt. Rev. W. Darin Moore, Presiding Bishop of the Western Episcopal District

As I think of Mrs. Ella Brown, I smile, because she was always smiling even if she said "Oh a little pain here and there but it is good". She had a kind word and a smile for everyone. I will cherish the encouraging words you shared with me. Juanita Griffin
