Eliza Ann (Haynes) Coleman was born to the late William and Alceen Haynes on April 5, 1937 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was one of 16 children.
Eliza was a high school graduate of McKinley High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. At the age of 20, she decided to strike out on her own. Her first stop was in Chicago, Illinois, but she eventually settled in Cincinnati, Ohio, the new home of her older sister, Alceen Edwards (deceased). They lived in the same apartment building in Evanston on Gilbert Avenue. She went to school for Nursing Aide while she worked as a housekeeper to raise her three daughters, Pamela, Linda and Stephanie.
In 1966, she was reunited with her childhood sweetheart, Charlie Coleman, Jr. (deceased). They were married on November 7, 1967 and in August, 1968, they welcomed their fourth daughter, Jammie. Then, three years later, in December, 1971, welcomed Evette (Candi Cane).
She became a member of Fifth Christian Church Disciples of Christ in 1976, under the pastorate of Rev. James L. Brooks, Sr. (deceased). Her favorite Psalm was/is Psalms 23, “The Lord is my shepherd…” She was also a member of the Divine Crusaders and Kitchen Ministry. She loved her church and church family. She enjoyed being in the kitchen. Her
favorite creations were her pound cake, maca- roni and cheese, and seafood gumbo. Our mother could do just about anything (at least that’s how we felt about her). We will truly miss her, but we know that she is ever present.
We, her daughters, Pamela, Linda, Stephanie, Jammie and Evette, along with family and friends, are here to celebrate her life and cheer in her homegoing.
She leaves to celebrate her life: grandchildren, Donna (Ike), U’Vontrice, Dominique (Willie), Jakeem, Lacy, Quincy (deceased), Richard and Britton (deceased) and Valencia; great-grandchildren, Angelica, Nija, Nathaniel, Shyanne Rihonna, Bryan, London, Brianne, Hayden and Ikeem; sisters, Annie, Lula, Yvonne and Carolyn; a brother, Spencer; godson, Arthur; nieces and nephews, and a host of friends and acquaintances.
