Elberta Amica Ranford was born September 19, 1928 to Clarence and Mamie (nee Turner) Amica in Byromville, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dannie Ranford Sr.; sons, Dannie Ranford Jr., Stanley E. Ranford, Wendell Ranford; sister, Susie Mae Nelson; and brother, Willie James Amica.
Elberta attended public school in Dooley County Georgia. Elberta accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and was baptized at Litle Poplar Springs Baptist Church.
On December 26, 1946 she was united in holy matrimony to Dannie Ranford and this union lasted 71 years until his death. They were blessed with five children. Upon moving to Cincinnati, Ohio she joined the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. C.J. Scruggs. Here she was a member of the Willing Workers, The Mother Board and the Seasoned Saints.
After coming to Cincinnati, she worked at the Sheraton Gibson Hotel for 25 years until it closed. She then began her career with The Jewish Hospital of Cincinnati, and gave 17 years of service and retired in 1991. She loved shopping and her favorite were Hats. She never drove so she would take the bus and travel everywhere in the city. Her children would offer to take her where she wanted to go but her famous words were “No, I’m going to go as long as I am able” and that is exactly what she did. She was a classy, strong and beautiful lady.
