Edith Mae Miller was born in Greenville, South
Carolina on March 1, 1938, the second oldest of
six children of the late Robert and Jennie Mae
Carr.
“Edie Mae” as she was known, attended school
in Cincinnati and became a Licensed Practical
Nurse for the City of Cincinnati from which
she retired in 2000. She was baptized at Peace
Baptist Church where her family were members
for many years.
She was an active and avid union leader and
organizer, serving as President of Local Chapter
3119 and Regional AFSCME Council 8 Representative.
She was active in Democratic political
organizing for over 30 years.
She had a generous and engaging spirit who
would always welcome family and strangers
alike into her home. Quick to help anyone in
need, her heart and home where always open.
Seldom did she meet a stranger and would tell it
the way she saw it, not always being mindful of
how it came out. Her love and compassion were
evident.
Most of us will remember Edie Mae most
fondly for her gift of gab and sense of humor.
She enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed
trips to Las Vegas. She leaves to cherish her memory: daughters,
Jennie (Greg), Bernadette and Deanna; sons,
Eugene “Bo” and Kenneth; daughters-in-law,
Natalie and Yvette; 17 grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren; one brother, Lionel (Marie)
of New York City; two sisters, Valerie and Gail,
both of Cincinnati; special first cousin, Mr.
Willie Carr of Cincinnati; and a host of nieces,
nephews and other relatives.
She is preceded in death by her late husband, Sir
Bonnie Miller; son, Ezra; and two brothers,
Robert Carr, Jr. and Verl Carr.
