Damon Raymont Akemon was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1980 to Sandra Cornell and Frank Akemon, Jr. Damon followed his mother in death on December 9, 2013. He attended Princeton High School and later married Camilia McDonald. They had three children, but in total, Damon had eight loving and devoted children to cherish his memory: Anasiah, Tranaye, Noah Burton, Damirre, Dameisha, Damilia, Damiah and Damon R. Akemon, Jr. His loving brother, Larry V. Lackey, Sr. and sister, Tera (Daryl Sr.) Patton, and his favorite niece, Shannon Lackey and favorite nephews, Larry V. Lackey, Jr. and Daryl Patton, Jr. cherish his memory.
Also left to cherish Damon’s memory is his loving aunt and uncle, Arthur and Gail Lackey who he resided with shortly after the passing of his mother. They were a father and mother figure to him, and kept in touch with him by checking to see if he was alright, trips to dialysis, etc., up until his passing. Overall, just letting him know that they were still there for him. Likewise, to cherish his memory is aunt, Barbara Sawyer, uncle, Donald Lackey, Sr. and aunts, Harriet Hope and Wanda Lackey; loving cousin, David Williams, Jr. (who was hospitalized at Children’s Hospital Medical Center and Damon checked on him everyday while he was employed there at that time); and a host of cousins, family and friends.
Damon had health issues starting at the age of nine years old which led to him being on dialysis at the age of 19. His treatment lasted up until his demise. He had an old soul. When he was a child, he
loved keeping company with his elders. Sometimes we used to tease him just to see what old school comment he had to say, and we all laughed. As an adult, he still kept you laughing, but not always purposely. It’s just how he went about explaining a situation, which sometimes came out comical. Damon had a loving and caring heart. He helped take care of his mother up until her passing. He was there for his father also and they bonded and shared feelings only a father and son knows.
Damon loved his children so much it wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for them. That too is what kept him going, but in reality those laughs we had with him were our tears we share with him.
Damon was a solider til the end. The battle was no longer his fight. God put his body at rest.
Behind every strong man is a strong woman. His sister, Tera was that woman who supported his back because she refused to let him fall.
