Columbus Cook, fondly known as “Bud” was born in Watkinsville, GA on October 13, 1923, to James and Leslie Cook. He peacefully departed this life on December 22, 2014. The youngest of three children; two sisters, Doris Williams and Viola Ketley preceded him in death.
Columbus accepted Christ and was baptized at a young age. He left home to enlist in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he served two years in the Air Corp. After, returning home from service he began working at Wright Patterson Air Force base in Dayton, OH. He later moved to Cincinnati, OH and started working for Darling & Co. as a truck driver where he retired after 40 years.
He met and married Ella Mae from Emelle, Alabama and they were blessed with three daughters: Denise, Veronica, and Maxine; four sons: George, Carlois, Garrett and Jamell (Robin) of Cincinnati, OH. The couple worked hard to purchase the materials to build their family home in Lincoln Heights in 1962.
Columbus shared his talents to teach others and share the importance of an education. As a self taught mechanic he would share his knowledge with his kids and others in the community who wanted to learn. He became an entrepreneur owning his Trucking Co. His love for driving trucks was passed on to his sons. Columbus enjoyed fishing, gardening and family vacations in Athens, Georgia.
Columbus was active in his community attending council meetings and contributor of the history for the book Lincoln Heights. He was an acclaimed historian. He was liked by everyone and will be missed by all of those who knew him.
He leaves to cherish his memory; devoted wife/caregiver, Ella Mae, seven children; George, Denise, Carlois, Garrett, Veronica, Maxine and Jamell (Robin) all of Cincinnati, OH, ten grandchildren; Jacqueline, Jonisa, Marlon, Valarie, Cortney, Tassie, Sharell, Montell, Morgan of Cincinnati, OH and Garrett (KY), five great-grandchildren; Kamaiya, Damir, Javian, Tylen and Karrington of Cincinnati, OH, one sister-in-law; Susie Fambrough, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
