It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Lee Emery Sr., who went home to be with the Lord on June 14, 2025.
Born on December 18, 1942, in Columbus, Mississippi, Charles was the beloved son of the late Willie Dee Emery Sr. and Marion Blanchard. He was a devoted husband to the late Brenda Emery, with whom he shared 45 beautiful years of marriage.
Charles was a loving and dedicated father to Bobby, Precious, Chucky, Oscar, DeMarco, DeMarla, Kenny, Oko, and Lumo. He was a proud grandfather of 21 grandchildren, and a great-grandfather to many more. He also leaves behind his cherished siblings, Willie Dee Jr., Lillian, and Stevie.
A man of wisdom and joy, Charles was known for his infectious laughter, his wise counsel, and the unwavering support he gave to those around him. A passionate golfer and a revered martial artist, Charles began teaching martial arts in 1967 and was a founding member of NBBKA. In 2004, he was honored with the title of “Nim”, the highest rank in Japanese martial arts, equivalent to Sensei.
Charles touched many lives through his discipline, humility, and service to his community. His legacy of love, strength, and wisdom lives on through his family, students, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we celebrate his life, we hold close the words of Psalm 91: He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust…
Charles will be remembered for the deep legacy he leaves behind — one of discipline, love, and unwavering faith. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
