Our beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, niece, aunt, and dear friend, Carolyn Mae Artis (affectionately called Lu Lu) was born June 25, 1951 to the union of James and Hattie B. Artis. She was the third angel of 9 children. She departed this life suddenly on Friday, February 24, 2012.
She was blessed with two sons, Anthony Artis and Coleman Dwon Bailey, who were the loves of her life.
She accepted Christ at an early age and later joined Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Lloyd C. Williams, where she was a faithful member.
Carolyn attended Withrow High School, Class of 1969. She started her career in the insurance industry at Great American Insurance Company. Later, following in her father?s footsteps, joined the Ford Motor Company on June 28, 1976 and worked as a loyal and dedicated employee. She retired as a fork-lift driver after over 32 years of service.
Carolyn had a nurturing and loving nature for anyone whom she felt was in need. She was blessed with the gift of hospitality. Growing up, her parents instilled in their children to be there for one another unconditionally. Carolyn was a selfless and giving person. Family was her top priority. Family gatherings were always extra special when “LU LU” was there. She brought the party with her. Her laughter is unforgettable and contagious. Everyone knew her for her humor, but when Carolyn meant business, she meant business. Carolyn had a passion for cooking, traveling, gardening, and decorating.
Carolyn leaves to cherish her memory: her loving sons, Anthony Artis and Coleman Dwon Bailey (Tamika Marshall); parents, James and Hattie B. Artis; siblings, James Earl Artis, Mary Johnson (Eric), Ronald Artis (Michelle), Diane Brown (John), Yvonne Hancock (Gary), Greta Ward, Michelle Anderson, Kevin Artis and Kenneth Artis. She is the grandmother of Antionette Jasmine Artis, Chyna LaToya Artis, Anthony Artis, and her princess, Layla Carol Sky Marshall Bailey. She also leaves behind, her favorite aunt, Reola Hunt; close friends, Delores Hughes, special friend, William Mitchell (Pony Tail), Angie and Layton Presswood and Nancy Nelson. Carolyn will also be remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends whom all loved her dearly.
