The life journey of Bernice Knight Childs began on August 17, 1923 in Renova, Mississippi. She was the fourth child of five children born to the late Wilson and Mary Knight (all who have preceded her in death).
She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and served faithfully until her illness.
She was educated in Chicago, IL where she met and married her first husband. Born to that union were her beloved sons, Kenneth and Arvora (deceased) Johnson.
She was united in holy matrimony on October 2, 1971 to Thurman R. Childs. They built a wonderful life together in Kennedy Heights. They enjoyed each other?s company and were devoted to one another.
Bernice had many loves, the first being her family. She showed that love in her meal preparation. We especially loved her chili. Everything she gave was the very best and it was always from her heart. She was very witty and could offer a witty response on a moment?s notice. She was meticulous in how she kept her home and her personal appearance. She was an avid sports fan, always cheering for the home teams. Bernice was a mem-ber of the Eastern Stars, and was actively involved in local elections working the polls. She was a dedicated, committed and faithful usher for many years. She also was a member of the Missionary Society.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted husband, Thurman; her son, Kenneth (Lynnette); Ronald, Lionel (Denise) and Jeffrey (Joan) Childs and Pamela Knox of Dayton, OH; 12 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Her last years were spent in the Hyde Park Care Center where she received excellent personal care and attention from the entire Hyde Park and Vitas staffs.
