Addie Jean Brown was born January 4, 1934 to Stanley
and Mattie Sue (Wilkerson) Fitzpatrick in Valleyview, Ohio
(where General Electric Evendale now sits). The family later
moved to Lincoln Heights, Ohio in the early 1940?s. Jean,
as she was affectionately known to her family and friends,
attended Blessed Martin Elementary School and later South
Woodlawn and Lockland Wayne High School.
She married James Knox (Little Tenny) Brown on January
24, 1947, and to this union was born eight children. She was
preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Marian
(George) Ellis, Doris Ector, Carolyn Smith, Ronald, Donald
and Leonard Fitzpatrick and Oscar Robbison; and one son,
James Robert Brown.
She was baptized at an early age at First Baptist Church
of Lincoln Heights where she served along side her husband
as Deacon and Deaconess for many years. She later worshipped
at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church under Rev. Talbert
Brown; Immanuel Baptist Church under Rev. Odell Boggs;
and New Galatians Baptist Church under Rev. Nathaniel
Livingston, Rev. Sullen and Rev. Edward Dale. She continued
her Christian journey until the time of her death.
Jean had many successful endeavors in life. To mention a
few, as an entrepreneur she owned and operated several
businesses, including: ?Stop and Shop? grocery store, three
ceramic studios, and a candy store. After receiving her
teaching certification from Duncan Educational Services,
she taught ceramics, arts and crafts in nursing homes, Seven
Hills Neighborhood Services Agencies, Community Action
Agency, schools and the community.
Her service to her family and community spanned decades
and included: soccer coach, school bus driver for the first
alternative education program for Princeton Schools, recreation
manager for Neal Craig House, first class graduate of
the Lincoln Heights Citizens Police Academy, volunteer for
Lincoln Heights Clean Up and Mayor?s Beautification
Committees, member of Lincoln Heights Weed and Seed
Initiatives, We Thrive Initiatives and Community Garden.
She also served the State of Ohio as Ohio Board of Elections
Presiding Judge for 30 plus years and general Notary Public since 1975.
May her works speak for her. She will be greatly missed.
She leaves to cherish her memory: sister, Dorothy Mae
Waller; children, Kenneth (Mary) Brown, Mildred L. Brown,
Esther (Jamie) Toran, Jamarion (Beverly) Brown, Stanley
(Michelle) Brown, Mattie Sue Gray and Virginia Brown; 35
grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren and 14 great-greatgrandchildren;
she loved many other children and adults as
her own family; in-laws, Alfred Ector, Earl (Cecelia), Eunice
and Emmitt Brown; her special friends, Christine ?Candy?
Harris, Lamarr Carden, Anna Smith, Charles McCloud,
Arthur Lindsay, Glodana Moxley, Phillip and Deborah
Rhodes, Donald Watkins and Marvin Duren; and a host of
other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
